Scope and Contents This file consists of two fliers created in 1969 by student groups, the Student Advisory Council of the City University of New York and CCNY Committee for Open Admissions. In these fliers, the groups discuss current administrative issues with diversity, academic curricula, funding, and budgetary support of CUNY students and call for students to apply political pressure and organize. This file consists of three handbills advertising two separate exhibitions that took place in 2020 featuring photographs taken by Harvey Silver. Silver’s photographs reproduced on the handbills are of live performances, musicians, and images of upstate New York.

Abstract

Collection of fliers, posters, buttons, handbills, and other political ephemera from the 1960s-1970s documenting activist movements in New York City, Queens, and Queens College. Topics include the Vietnam War, 1968 presidential and other elections, students’ rights, and racism. Materials in the collection were gathered by Harvey Silver, a Queens College alumnus who was student activist and photographer of various political and cultural events in the 1960s-1970s.
