Printed in London by Thomas Dawson for Thomas Man and Tobie Cooke. Title within border of type ornaments; initials. First English translation of Calvin’s sermons on Jacob. Thomas Dawson, chiefly a trade printer in London, active 1568-1620: was apprenticed to Richard Jugge and later succeeded by his nephew, John Dawson. Thomas Man, senior bookseller in London, active 1576-1625: was apprenticed to George Harrison the elder and dealt almost entirely in theological books; rapidly rose to be one of the largest entrepreneur in the trade as well as one of the most important member of the Company of Stationers of which he was elected Master in several years. Toby Cook, bookseller in London: was apprenticed to John Harrison and dealt mostly in theological literature; in 1598 he assigned most of his copyrights to Richard Field and Felix Kingston.

The covers flare outward at the sides and the front cover is coming off on the top left side.The back has a decorated cartouche in red with the text: CALVIN’S SERMONS Colophon: Imprinted at London by Thomas Dawson at the tree Cranes in the Vinetree, For Tobie Cooke, and Thomas Man 1579
