Special Collections and Archives, 1969 - 2015

 Sub-Series — Box: 9

Scope and Contents

These files cover the development of Special Collections and Archives as a unit within the library. There are also two folders on the Louis Armstrong Archives, and a folder on the Rare Book Collection (also called the X collection). Materials document initial efforts to create a college archive in 1969-1970; a new round of proposals and advocacy for archives in the late 1980s and early 1990s; work undertaken by part-time archivist Steve Barto in the 1990s to early 2000s (including vacating historic collections from Kiely Hall and a records management project at Powdermaker Hall); and the development of the more modern Special Collections and Archives unit in the 2000s. There are files on the relationship between the Library and Szilvia Tanenbaum/Pine Tree Foundation of New York regarding the creation of the Tanenbaum room 300i and other proposals.
