Scope and Contents

This collection of 123 envelopes with letters are primarily between Colonel A Park Shaw stationed in the Phillipines and Miss Nancy Ann Watson in Kentucky within the date range of 1945-1946. Interspersed are 13 family photographs and 1 Japanese army pesos note. The correspondence describes the loving relationship between Col. Shaw and Miss Watson. Included is the newspaper clipping of Col. Shaw’s order to report announcement.

Scope and Contents

These maps provides a graphic account of the War, with "Outstanding Events" noted on a year by year basis and legend noting the United Nations, Axis nations and Nonbelligerent nations, plus the location of Outlying US Naval Bases. One of a number of Sundberg maps published as Sunday news inserts during the war years. Sundberg was known to have been a pictorial map artist both before and after the war.

Abstract

This collection consists of a variety of materials all relating to the Second World War from the American perspective including United States Marine Corps photographs, correspondence between a Colonel stationed in the Phillipines and his romantic partner, illustrated maps printed in the New York Sunday News and one hand drawn map from the early 1940s. Additional items include Armed Services Edition paperback books and Civil Defense literature.
