Scope and Contents

In the group interview, the three Queens College alumnae, Ellen Weingart, Edith Balan, and Linda Tucker, reminisce about what an achievement it was to get admitted to Queens College in the early 1960s when they were college students, about joining house plans and enjoying a vibrant social life in the campus, and about choosing and enjoying the required physical education classes like lacrosse, swimming, and folk dancing.

Biographical Note

The interviewees grew up nearby and attended Queens College because, at the time, it was free and very prestigious. After graduating in 1960, Weingart went into education, taught for a while, but finally settled in education administration. Tucker graduated in 1962, then went on to become a published author and an editor-in-chief for many magazines and newspapers. Balan also went into teaching after graduating in 1962 but switched tracks after returning from maternity leave. She eventually settled in museum administrative work, which entailed a lot of docent work and organizing education materials. All three women remain friends throughout the years and now live in Long Island.
