In this interview, Dr. Martin Pine looks back on his career as a professor of history and the changes he saw at Queens College through the decades. Some highlights include the student and faculty protests over the Vietnam War, the development of the college’s physical campus, the increasingly diverse student body, and the revolutionary effects of technology in education.

Biographical note

Dr. Martin Pine was Professor of History at Queens College for more than 40 years before retiring in 2004; he then continued to teach as an adjunct until shortly before his death in 2014. During his time at Queens he taught in the SEEK and ACE programs; was director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies; and served on the history department’s Personnel and Budget Committee for many years. Pine received his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. in history from Columbia University, and was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship. His specialty was medieval and Renaissance intellectual history.
