 Sub-Series — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

This sub-series contains several flyers for lectures hosted by the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, and other lectures hosted in collaboration with other institutions. The bulk of the lectures include the Annual Linos Politis Lectures and the Linos Politis Lecture Series.

The Annual Linos Politis Lectures include the following:

  • The 8th Annual Linos Poltis Lecture: “Poetry and Politics: The Greek Culture Dilemma”, presented by John Chioles.
  • The 9th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “Searching For Codes of Greek Artistic Music”, presented by Theodore Antoniou.
  • The 10th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “Recent Tendencies and Developments in Greek Poetry”, presented by Lydia Stephanou.
  • The 12th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “Can Poetry Still Matter?”, was presented by Haris Vlavianos.
  • The 13th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “History and Autobiography in My Novels” presented by Alki Zei.
  • The 14th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “It’s A Long Road”, lecture and film presentation by Pantelis Voulgaris.
  • The 15th Annual Linos Politis Lecture: “Seferis’ Wartime Exile”, presented by Edmund S. Keeley.

The Linos Politis Lecture Series includes:

  • “Andreas Embeirikos and Greek Surrealism”, presented by Yorgis Yatromanolakis.
  • “Poetry and Politics In The First Post-War II Generation: Dialogue and Conflict”, presented by Professor D. N. Maronitis.
  • “Greek Woman Poets”, presented by Katerina Anghelaki-Rooke.

There are also two Linos Politis Lectures that fit into neither Linos Politis Lecture category:

  • “Greek Literary Journals in the Past and Today”, presented by Yiorgos Chouliaras.
  • “Modern Greek Literacy Journals: A Sketch”.

There are also various lectures Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies lectures hosted exclusively by the Center as well as co-sponsored events with other Queens College departments, including the Center for Jewish Studies, the Ikaros Greek Club, and lectures in collaboration with Princeton University (sponsored by the CUNY Seminar on the Modern Greek State).
