Biographical note
Dr. Jon Peterson (1935-2023) was a professor of history at Queens College from 1966 until retiring in 2005, serving as chair of the department from 1990 to 1994. He held a B.A. in history from Swarthmore College, an M.A. in American history from Ohio State University, and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. As a specialist in U.S. urban history, Peterson was well-known for his award-winning book The Birth of City Planning in the United States, 1840-1917 (2003).
