Scope and Contents

A collection of pamphlets, teaching aids, and informational documents encouraging citizen education in a variety of subjects pertaining to civlian defense and the war effort. These documents are produced by various departments and offices of the U.S. government, including the Department of Civilian Defense, Office of Emergency Managment and Office of Price Administration.

Biographical / Historical

Established by President Franklin Roosevelt, the Office of Civilian Defense published information on safety protocol and procedures for war-related actions and eventually created the Citizen’s Defense Corp. - a citizen volunteer group including auxiliary police, couriers, and drivers.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Based on stamps and other evidence on the leaflets, it appears that the Civil Defense literature was part of the Paul Klapper Library's collection.
