Abstract

The Queens Branch of the AAUW was largely responsible for scholarship and education from 1931 until the branch disbanded in 2008. The collection holds many of the papers specific to the Queens Branch including research projects the Queens Branch took part in and information about the bylaws and history of the branch.

Scope and Contents Arthur Gatti is an author and poet with a long history of involvement in activism and community organizing. Scope and Contents In this interview, alumni Mike Wenger, Stan Shaw, and Mark Levy discuss their impressions of life at Queens College in the early 1960s. The three discuss the culture of campus, the impact of the Virginia Student Help Project in 1963, and subsequent student activist movements on campus and in society at large. Abstract

From 1967-1969, Dr. Sheila Delany taught English Literature at Queens College. In November 1968, the English Department's decision not to rehire Delany contributed to campus upheveal that occurred in the spring of 1969. This collection documents the department's decision and protests associated with her plight, as well as a subsequent job offer in the SEEK program that was later retracted. Materials include correspondence, fliers, and clippings.

This interview covers topics such as growing up in Flushing in the 1950s; being brought up in a leftist/progressive home; civil rights movement activities he and his older brothers participated in at Queens College and in Flushing in the early to mid-1960s; and later activism in which Rosenthal was a participant.
