John Tytell Papers
Scope and Contents
Manuscripts and notes (mostly hand written, some typed) for Tytell's books Ezra Pound: The Solitary Volcano (1987) and Passionate Lives: D. H. Lawrence, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Miller, Dylan Thomas, Sylvia Plath...in Love (1991), as well as copies of the published books. There is also a manusript of a speech on Walt Whitman given at Queens College on April 8, 1997, and copy of his book Naked angels: Kerouac, Ginsberg, Burroughs (1976).

Biographical Note
John Tytell (born 1939) is a professor emeritus of modern American literature at Queens College, City University of New York, where he was first hired in 1977. He is considered a leading scholar on the Beat Generation and he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for his 1987 biography Ezra Pound: The Solitary Volcano.

Immediate Source of Acquisition
Manuscripts and notes were donated by John Tytell in April, 1992. Books were transferred from the circulating collection and placed with his papers in 2025.
