Aaron Copland School of Music Records

Overview The Aaron Copland School of Music Collection (formerly the Department of Music) consists of materials about the administrative, faculty and student activities of the Aaron Copland School of Music. The collection contains a wide-range of materials including correspondence, brochures, photographs, audio tapes, press clippings, and department course and event schedules. The bulk of the collection consists of personnel files of prominent department faculty.

Alfred Heinemann Papers

Abstract Alfred Heinemann (1908-1995) was a German composer, concert pianist, and lecturer. The collection is comprised of Heinemann’s compositions from 1920 to 1964 and is in various stages of completion. The collection also includes notes on the compositions, lecture notes, programs from performances, correspondence, an audio recording of a performance of Heinemann’s String Quartet and personal papers.

Andrew Berman Papers

Abstract The Andrew Berman Collection contains newspaper clippings, publications, activist documents, correspondence, fliers, position papers, conference notes and video footage documenting Mr. Berman’s political and social activism during his tenure as a Queens College student in the early-to-mid 1960s. Materials document Mr. Berman’s activist work with several major organizations, most significantly the Queens College chapter of Students for a Democratic Society.

Dean Savage Papers

Overview The Dean Savage Papers documents civil rights initiatives by northern student volunteers under the auspices of the Summer Community Organization and Political Education (SCOPE) Project during the summer of 1965. This collection primarily consists of color photographs taken in Orangeburg County, SC and Atlanta, GA. Also included are newspaper articles, pamphlets, and photocopied transcripts of speeches given at orientation in Atlanta, GA.

Abstract The Elliot Linzer Collection consists primarily of near-print materials, such as handbills, mimeographed flyers, and pamphlets documenting the activities of various New York City-area chapters of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), a civil rights organization, during the early 1960s. Elliot Linzer is a Queens College alumnus and former member of CORE.
