Scope and Contents

The QC Office of Institutional Effectiveness continually collects, organizes, and analyzes institutional data for many reasons: to improve and refine academic programs, to increase student, faculty, and staff success, and to report compliance to state and federal agencies and accreditation boards. This data is published as a report at the beginning of the academic year as “QC Fact Books.” Information included in Fact Books falls under these organizing topics: general college profile, organization of the college, student admissions statistics, student profiles, student financial aid trends, enrollment, academic performance, divisional and departmental summaries, personnel and affirmative action reports, finances, publications, campus resources, and contextual national and state trends/projections.

Fact Books from 1993 to 2014 are printed in their entirety and either stapled together or bound by spiral comb binding. These documents are exhaustive reports up to 200 pages. The report for 2002-2003 is missing. The reports for 2011-2012 and 2012-13 are available as digital PDFs only.

Fact Books from 1967 to 1987 resemble the "College Profile" fact sheets disseminated by the OIE today and record only basic facts regarding demographics of Queens College's student body and faculty. These early editions of the Fact Books are loose and unbound.

Biographical / Historical

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (OIE) provides access to high-quality, trustworthy data to enhance academic and administrative effectiveness, and to inform student success initiatives, program development and evaluation, fundraising endeavors, public relations, and strategic planning. Through collaboration with academic and administrative units across the college, OIE strives to facilitate evidence-based decision-making to improve student success and the student experience at Queens College.

The Office of Institutional Effectiveness (formerly the Office of Institutional Research) at Queens College supports the evidence-based decision-making of administrators, faculty, and program and unit directors, with the overall goal of improving institutional quality. To compile the Fact Books, the office engages in institutional research and assessment activities that support strategic planning, student success initiatives, program development and evaluation, grant seeking and other fundraising endeavors, marketing, and public relations. Institutional Effectiveness aims to provide relevant and reliable data to decision-makers, strengthen and systematize institutional and student learning outcomes assessment, and broaden the engagement of faculty and staff in continuous improvement efforts through collaboration with the Center for Teaching and Learning and the academic and administrative units across the college.
