Andrew Berman Papers

Abstract

The Andrew Berman Collection contains newspaper clippings, publications, activist documents, correspondence, fliers, position papers, conference notes and video footage documenting Mr. Berman’s political and social activism during his tenure as a Queens College student in the early-to-mid 1960s. Materials document Mr. Berman’s activist work with several major organizations, most significantly the Queens College chapter of Students for a Democratic Society.

Abstract The papers of Ann Birstein consist chiefly of manuscripts of published fiction and nonfiction works. The collection also includes correspondence, printed matter, photographs, and personal miscellany. The bulk of the correspondence consists of letters and postcards from Birstein’s husband, literary critic Alfred Kazin. The Barbara (Jones) Omolade Collection documents civil rights activism on the Queens College campus during the 1960s, including the Freedom Week Events of 1964. This collection also provides material pertaining to the Mississippi Summer Project of 1964 and the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

Debby Yaffe Papers

Abstract As a Queens College student, Debby Yaffe volunteered with the Student Help Project, an initiative that provided free tutoring services to underserved children. Elliot Linzer Papers

Abstract

The Elliot Linzer Collection consists primarily of near-print materials such as handbills, mimeographed flyers, and pamphlets documenting the activities of New York City chapters of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), a civil rights organization, during the early 1960s. Elliot Linzer is a Queens College alumnus and former member of CORE.

Foods, Fashions, and Furnishings Trip Collection

Abstract

Collection of fliers, posters, buttons, handbills, and other political ephemera from the 1960s-1970s documenting activist movements in New York City, Queens, and Queens College. Topics include the Vietnam War, 1968 presidential and other elections, students’ rights, and racism. Materials in the collection were gathered by Harvey Silver, a Queens College alumnus who was student activist and photographer of various political and cultural events in the 1960s-1970s.

Jean L. Konzal Papers

Abstract

This collection includes personal and printed materials, photographs, and feature personal accounts of Konzal’s activities as a tutor, civil rights activist, and student. The collection documents the Student Help Project in Prince Edward County, Virginia, and, to a lesser extent, other civil rights activism through 1965. Also present are materials on the 1963 March on Washington and documents from several civil rights organizations.
