Queens College, circa 1967-1975, bulk: circa 1968-1969

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 15-22

Scope and Contents

This file consists of six folders of materials including press statements and releases, newspaper clippings, newsletters, mimeographs, posters, fliers, position papers, and bulletins surrounding the student movement, campaigns, and political activities that took place on Queens College’s campus in the late 1960s to early 1970s.

The bulk of the materials (seven folders in total) in this file relate to the ejection of General Electric recruiters from campus by student activists at Queens College and the subsequent occupation of a campus building in 1968. These materials reflect multiple sides of the campus unrest including the perspectives of faculty and administration, statements and demands by student activists from campus organizations such as the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and the Ad Hoc Committee for an End to Political Suppression, and student groups such as the Student Coalition formed as a reaction to the student occupation of the campus building. Additionally, there are newspaper clippings from publications such as the New York Times, New York Post, and the Journal of Queens College reporting upon the events.

One folder contains materials related to rallies and information sessions regarding campus concerns and issues such as college curricula, student benefits, campus cultural events and student publications, and the creation of an area food co-op.
