Scope and Content

This series documents the activities of the Karol Rathaus Memorial Association, Inc., which formed in 1956 to "aid and promote the publication, performance and recording of the musical compositions of Karol Rathaus" as well as to carry out related activities, such as awarding memorial prizes and assisting the Queens College Music Library. The series includes documentation of performances; correspondence with publishers, Gerta Rathaus, and other entities; membership materials and outreach; meeting minutes and agendas; promotional material; and other administrative materials.

Additional Description

Immediate Source of Acquisition

The bulk of this series was donated by Gabriel Fontrier, a past president of the association (date uncertain). A small accretion was transferred from the Aaron Copland School of Music in January, 2022 (one records carton, of which about 10 files were retained after weeding for duplicates and removing items without adequate research value).

Processing Information

Files were for largely retained in their original order. Where applicable, the previous folder lables were retained within acid-free folders for context. Occasionally, some materials were combined or refiled by the archivist for clarity/efficiency.
