Rosenthal Family Heirlooms, early 1940s- 2005

 Sub-Series — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

Scrapbooks, photo albums, personal items and ephemera belonging to Leon Rosenthal, Evelyne (Freundlich) Rosenthal, and Barbara Rosenthal from childhood through adulthood. Materials include autograph books and address books, diplomas and yearbooks, Barbara Rosenthal’s childhood items-including religious items from her Batmitzvah, Evelyne Rosenthal’s craft materials, and Leon Rosenthal’s World War II diaries, and objects and art supplies related to his architecture practice.

Rosenthal considers her father’s work as an architect to have impacted her own understanding of design, color, and materiality, and introduced her to the idea of working for oneself. She considers her mother's meticulous nature and abilities as a craftswoman to have been another major influence on her.
