Scope and Contents

Stemming from the results of a campus survey conducted, students preferred the option of having two papers as opposed to one. Similar in scope and content to The Crown (above), The Rampart coverage including: student life, academic program orientation & development, the impact of WWII, and numerous scholars, artists, and politicians who visited Queens College.

Selection of notable articles and topics: Student Publications Collection 7 April 5, 1955: Music department faculty advisor resigns from student association, because Pete Seeger (a “known communist sympathizer”) was asked to return to Queens College. Oct. 3, 1958: (V.34, No.2) “City College Bans Davis” [chairman of the Communist Party] May 26, 1959: Article discussing the end of The Crown and The Rampart and plans for the subsequent merger into one publication, Phoenix.
