Scope and Contents
This series includes letters, telegrams and greeting cards sent while Kazin was in residence at Yaddo, an artists’ community in Saratoga Springs, New York, and Birstein was writer-in-residence at The MacDowell Colony, an artists’ colony in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Many of Kazin’s letters include personal reflection on his writing process, and comments on mutual friends and colleagues from the literary world. The series also includes correspondence from Kazin while in residence at the American Academy in Rome. This series is arranged chronologically.
