Scope and Contents
These photographs depict the aftermath of the community rebellion in Newark in July 1967, originally sparked by an act of police brutality towards a local cab driver. At the time, Gatti was employed by the Newark Community Union Project (NCUP), which worked on social, economic, and racial equity issues locally. The initiative had its roots in Students for Democratic Society.
