New York Exams, 1940s-1960s
Scope and Contents
This series contains tests authored by individuals and agencies related to New York State (8 folders). Exams include Regents Scholarship Examination (1946-1949), Junior High School Survey Tests (1950-1962), Test for New York State Elementary Schools (1942, 1962, and 1967). Also included are tests by CUNY-related faculty, Jacob S. Orleans, Associate Professor of Education at College of the City of New York, and Albert J. Harris, Professor of Education at Queens College. Further there are tests from assorted New York agencies and institutions including E.K. Wickman, The Commonwealth Fund; David Wechsler, Bellevue Hospital; Jacob Greenberg, NYC Public Schools; Joseph B. Orleans, Chairman of the mathematics department at George Washington High School; Paul L. Turse, Chairman of the Commercial Department, at Peekskill High School; John J. Loftus, Assistant Superintendent of NYC Schools; Benjamin Alster, NYC Public Schools teacher; and J. Wayne Wrightstone, Director of Educational Research at the NYC Board of Education. From the city government, included is the Barsit test, as a general ability screening test for Spanish-speaking adults in New York, promoted by lvira Calvo of the Puerto Rican Community Development Project and the New York City Language Assessment Battery (LAB) for grades K-12 for Spanish and English proficiency from the Board of Education of the City of New York.
