Nail Salon Legislation (1 folder), 1990 - 1993
Scope and Contents
The types of materials in this subseries are primarily paper documents and bound reports that deomonstrate Marshall's daily activities and areas of interest throughout her multidecade career. A large quantity of files related to education reform are of particular interest, especially those regarding the City University of New York (CUNY) public higher education system. As a CUNY-educated teacher prior to becoming an elected official, Marshall's personal and political resolve to advocate for equitable and affordable education for the students of New York City are reflected herein. In addition to education, these files highlight some of Marshall's other priority issues as both a civic activist and elected official, including (but not limited to) racial justice, public libraries, women’s rights, health care, public parks, senior citizens. Also of note; "Borough President Files" and "Telephone Logs" cover a broad scope of Marshall's administrative functions and regular contacts, helping researchers get a glimpse of what a day in the life of a New York City elected official such as Marshall entailed throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
