Scope and Contents

Typed draft (with some hand written corrections), 86 pages. The first chapter provides an overview of Pierson’s reasons for producing the manuscript and thoughts on student unrest in the 1960s. The following chapters include a chronological accounting of events from September 25, 1968 through June 19, 1969. The final chapters consist of Pierson's reflections on his own experience as the Dean of Students during this tumultuous period.

Biographical / Historical

George Arthur Pierson Jr. was born in Brigham City, Utah on February 13, 1904. He received his B.A. (1929) and M.A.(1934) from the University of Utah, and his Ed.D from the University of Southern California. In the mid 1950s (possibly 1954) he moved to New York to become the Dean of Students at Queens College. He retired in the 1970s and he and his wife, Eily, subsequently moved to Gainesville, Florida in 1979. He died in Gainesville on January 18, 1987.
