Scope and Contents
Materials used in Johnson's research for his 2020 book Damaged Heritage, including The Arkansas Race Riot by Ida Wells-Barnett (1920), Civil rights and the Making of the Modern American State by Megan Ming (2014, Cambridge University Press), and On the Laps of Gods: the Red Summer of 1919 and the Struggle for Justice that Remade a Nation by Robert Whitaker (2008, Crown Publishers). Also included is a folder of primary sources relating to the massacre, such as transcripts from 1919 legal proceedings.
